WHO issues comprehensive guidelines on filovirus disease, including Ebola and Marburg disease

WHO released its first comprehensive guidance for managing filovirus illnesses, covering all Ebola and Marburg virus variants, with 16 evidence-based recommendations emphasizing early supportive care. The guidance comes as the Democratic Republic of the Congo confronts a Bundibugyo virus outbreak, and addresses case fatality rates of 25-90% across 72 documented outbreaks since 1967, covering clinical deterioration, dehydration, shock treatment, bacterial infections, and post-recovery care.
