What Happens If The Connection Goes Down? Lessons Learned from Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 Going Dark

Following an export control directive that disabled Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models overnight, this article examines the sovereignty risks organizations face when dependent on externally-controlled AI systems. It argues that recent advances in open-source models, particularly from Chinese labs and Nvidia, now make self-hosted alternatives viable, and advocates using gateway infrastructure to abstract model selection and maintain operational continuity without external dependencies.
