I prefer my document parsing to stay in the browser

Most browser-based document viewers rely on heavy JavaScript runtimes or proprietary cloud engines. They send your files to a server to be converted, or they spin up a massive, opaque runtime to try and mimic a desktop application. It is a pattern of outsourcing complexity.
