ATS fraud occurs when malicious actors exploit applicant tracking platforms to submit fake, synthetic, or stolen candidate identities, bypass hiring workflows, harvest employer data, or plant fraudulent hires, with the platforms processing millions of applications now the attack surface. The article identifies five fraud patterns (synthetic identity applications, credential farming, post-hire payroll diversion, fake employer accounts for data harvesting, and deepfake/proxy interview fraud) and recommends combining email enrichment, phone enrichment, IP intelligence, and device fingerprinting in a unified API.
