Dynamic height control of Tabstrip in classic Dynpro — is it possible?

Hi all, I have a classic Dynpro with two subscreen areas at the top and a Tabstrip at the bottom. I want to hide one or both of the upper subscreen areas via a button, and have the Tabstrip grow to fill the freed space — basically a responsive layout. The problem is that no matter what I change (height of the Tabstrip, height of the subscreen area inside it, height of the subscreens themselves), the Tabstrip always renders at the same size.
