Every few months, a new vendor promises a “zero touch” clinical coding automation pipeline: feed in raw text, let the algorithm match it against MedDRA coding or the WHO Drug Dictionary, and watch the manual work disappear. It’s a clean pitch. Real trial data just doesn’t cooperate with it.
