Unable to annotate images. Smart Select works but class picker never appears, "Find Objects with AI" fails

Symptoms: Smart Select can successfully highlight/segment an animal. After the segmentation is created, the class picker never appears, so we cannot assign a class (cow, sheep, goat, etc.). “Find Objects with AI” consistently returns “Failed to Find Objects”.
