Approximately 64,000 citizens reside in Jefferson County, located in the easternmost part of West Virginia. These county lines encompass a 212-square mile jurisdiction covering both historical municipal centers and vast rural expanses. As a multi-disciplinary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), Jefferson County Communications supports seven municipal police departments, seven volunteer fire companies, one county-wide emergency medical service (EMS) agency, the campus of Shepherd University and active License Plate Readers (LPR) tracking for the sheriff’s office.
