New codes are replacing global obstetric billing For decades, obstetric billing has run on a straightforward model: one global code, one lump-sum payment, one reimbursement at the end of pregnancy. Starting January 1, 2027, that model is scheduled to end. The American Medical Association is eliminating global pregnancy billing codes and replacing them with itemized codes.
