Abstract Background: Respiratory failure (RF) and atrial fibrillation/flutter (AF/AFL) often occur together in older adults, but long-term national mortality trends for the two conditions combined have not been described. We examined trends and disparities in deaths with co-listed RF and AF/AFL among U.S. adults aged 65 years and older from 1999 to 2024, and projected rates through 2035.
