Genetic susceptibility and causes for early-onset breast cancer: insights from genome-wide and phenome-wide analyses

Background Breast cancer diagnosed at a younger age tends to be more aggressive and have worse outcomes. While rare pathogenic variants in multiple susceptibility genes and >200 common variants have been identified for breast cancer, >50% of the familial risk of early-onset breast cancer (EOBC) remains unexplained.
