Software rarely gets worse all at once. More often, it contorts out of shape one useful feature at a time: a new control here, another state there, an exception for one workflow followed by yet another. Even when each decision makes sense in isolation, over time, the product begins to feel crowded, inconsistent, and hard to use. A big part of building good software is carefully pruning the product’s edges, returning it to what is helpful and intuitive to users. Since the last major redesign in 2
