Why Model Neutrality Matters More Than Cloud Neutrality

The article argues that as AI becomes a foundational layer for software development, organizations must prioritize model neutrality–the ability to switch between AI providers–rather than accepting vendor lock-in at the orchestration layer. Drawing parallels to Terraform’s role in cloud infrastructure, the author contends that a neutral, open-source agent harness enables teams to route tasks to the best-performing model for each job and adapt quickly as capabilities shift monthly across providers. Model neutrality at the harness layer provides more durable strategic value than cloud neutrality alone.
