Accepting Apple Pay on a website takes four things from Apple, not one: a Merchant ID, a Payment Processing Certificate, a Merchant Identity Certificate, and a verified domain. Apple documents all four. The Merchant ID never expires; the Payment Processing Certificate expires every 25 months, and when it lapses silently, live checkouts stop working.
