Key Findings
Buyers are finding real value in the category. According to G2's 2026 State of AI Agent Builders Report, based on 770 verified reviews, 43.5% of reviewers wrote at least 1.5x more words when discussing what they liked about an AI agent builder compared to discussing what they disliked. Only 9% did the inverse.
Orchestration is vital. Vendors assigned their orchestration layer an average of 3.4 out of 5 possible roles, from task coordination to governance enforcement. Orchestration has become the central nervous system of AI agent architectures.
API execution is a deal breaker. 6 out of 7 vendors surveyed identified API and system integration failures as the most common cause of overall AI agent workflow failures. That’s likely why buyers value integration capabilities so highly, making them their fourth most-liked aspect of AI agent builders (29%).
Customer support is the use case AI agent builders couldn't resist. All 7 vendors G2 surveyed named customer support as a primary workflow that their platforms automate. It was the only use case with unanimous agreement. Knowledge retrieval (5/7 vendors) and sales outreach (4/7 vendors) followed closely, signaling a clear cluster of high-value deployment areas where vendors are seeing AI agents deliver real, measurable impact. For a category often pitched as horizontally applicable, this concentration tells us where the technology is finding traction today.
