AI-generated software needs provenance that survives beyond the chat window. A code review can show what changed, but it rarely shows which model produced a fragment, what prompt and repository context influenced it, which agent or tool executed the change, which intent was being implemented, or whether the recorded history was altered later. Provenance fills that gap by treating generation as a supply-chain event rather than an ephemeral interaction.
