Department of Energy Celebrates Second Advanced Reactor Achieving Criticality

The U.S. Department of Energy celebrated Valar Atomics’ Ward 250 advanced reactor achieving a zero-power fueled criticality demonstration at the San Rafael Energy Lab in Emery County, Utah. This is the first DOE-authorized reactor constructed outside a national laboratory and the second advanced reactor to reach criticality under the DOE Reactor Pilot Program.
