Arizona AG Says Insurers Used Algorithm to Fix Out-of-Network Rates

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes filed a lawsuit against MultiPlan and major health insurers, alleging they used MultiPlan’s shared pricing algorithm and pooled confidential claims and payment data to suppress reimbursement rates for out-of-network medical care. The complaint contends this price-fixing scheme artificially lowered payments to healthcare providers while increasing patient out-of-pocket costs and reducing access to care in rural and mental health settings. Arizona is seeking injunctions, restitution, profit disgorgement, and civil penalties.
